THE CAMPAIGNS

Over the years, we have contributed to the aims of Camphill charities and we have helped support countless initiatives. Have a look at what our partner charities have accomplished so far, and at the ongoing campaigns in need of funding

The proportion of disabled people with no qualifications is nearly 3 times that of non-disabled people – help us change that

Current campaigns

At Camphill Estates, we financially support projects ranging from a few hundred to millions of pounds

The Compass project

The Compass Project, led by Camphill Wellbeing Trust, is an innovative initiative dedicated to transform a former school campus into a centre demonstrating practical solutions for healthy, sustainable lifestyles.

At Compass, the ethos and practices successfully pioneered for those with learning disabilities by the North-East Camphill organisations will be translated to benefit all who want to improve their health, maintain their wellbeing or explore a more sustainable lifestyle.

Compass is on phase three on their development and fundraising project. Raising £1.2 million over two years will allow for the refurbishment of the former kindergarten and science buildings into the East Point Hub, resurface the driving and parking area and finalise the site’s revitalisation.

Goal: £ 1.2 million

Building Futures, Transforming Lives campaign

Demand for care services has reached unprecedented levels. More children and young people need our support than ever before. In response to this, Camphill School Aberdeen needs to raise £10 million over 10 years to increase their capacity by 60%. This project will help meet current demands, allowing more students to join a sector-leading inclusive school.

Camphill School Aberdeen is at the end of Phase 1, with two out of three residential homes, an expansion of the land and craft workshops and an awards and qualifications centre left to construct.

Goal: £ 10 million

Simeon’s extension

Simeon Care is planning to expand Simeon House to bring their individualised, person-based services to more people. The extension of Simeon Home would entail a new construction which would include 12 en-suite bedrooms and an extension of the dementia-friendly gardens.

 Past campaigns

Camphill estates has successfully collaborated with our associated charities to deliver ground-breaking projects in the past

Cairnlee House Refurbishment

Cairnlee House is a residential care home for young adults aged 18-25. In 2016 Cairnlee House underwent a major refurbishment in order to bring it in line with modern standards. In the end, the design for the refurbishment maintained many of the historical features at the front of the house, which are mostly common social spaces and completely updated the residential areas, with en-suite bathrooms and bigger rooms.

The residents were involved through every step of the project, from the planning and design to the moving and furnishment of the house.

The Compass project: phase 1 and 2

Starting in 2020, the Compass Project has completed phase 1 and 2 of fundraising, allowing for the site’s development.

Phase 1 (£200k) was used to restore the outdoor areas to make them safe and allow for a sustainable gardening space.

Phase 2 (£1 million) allowed for the complete refurbishment of the North Point building, which is now serving as a multi-purpose space that can be hired by anyone. It also allowed an increase on the staffing and volunteering capacity on the site, and the expansion of gardening and sustainable initiatives.

Building Futures, Transforming Lives campaign phase 1

Phase 1 has helped launch a range of amazing initiatives. Linden House, an 11-bedroom residential home with an independent living wing, has been completed on Murtle Estate. This residence can host 7 young people and 4 members of staff or volunteers.

Murtle Market, the publicly facing wing of FRUVER, offers a sustainable shop, refillery, café, and heritage hub. Murtle Market creates meaningful training, work experience and skills development for young people with learning disabilities and complex additional support needs.

Lastly, the first free outdoor sensory playground in Aberdeen is under construction on Camphill Estate. This innovative project will grant a dedicated space for children with sensory disorders.

Laundry workshop renovation

The £50k renovation of the laundry workshop at Beannachar allowed for the expansion of the space, including roof and electrical repairs, window replacement and insulation. These reforms resulted in a larger, more functional, and more sustainable building.

The refurbishment has allowed up to 30 students to use the space, which now works as a one-way system. This has resulted in the centralisation of the laundry for the whole estate, reducing Beannachar’s carbon footprint by 5.6 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The work has also transformed the workshop into a bright and airy space with increased light and a more open feel, creating a pleasant and healthy working environment for all and making the workshop a more attractive choice for residents.

Simeon house

Simeon Care offers a purpose-built residential care home providing a warm, homely environment for 23 residents. This small-scale home creates a comforting environment, ensuring residents feel safe, secure, and respected at all times.

The building is fully wheelchair accessible, and residents have use of a private en-suite bedroom, and shared dining room, sitting room, seating areas, kitchen and larder.

Simeon House benefits from enclosed dementia friendly gardens, which enables residents to explore freely and safely.

Smaller projects

At Camphill Estates, we have contributed to the funding of countless small initiatives, including greenhouses, gardening tools, cooking equipment, bikes and electric cars.
